Home away from home!
The next time we go back to Wai Ola, it will seem like visiting dear friends. This impression is the direct result of how Jim and Kim make you feel when renting their home.
My favorite part of the day was coming back to this property, sitting with a refreshment by the amazing pool / patio area, sharing adventures that everyone had that day. Hands down, everybody's favorite part of the property were the outdoor spaces. In the morning, everyone would meet on the upstairs lanai to have coffee and watch the whales breach in the ocean. That's right, ocean views while having coffee. The rest of the time, everyone would hang by the pool where we would BBQ, lounge on the comfortable loungers, sit around one of two tables to visit, or unwind in the hot tub. There were nine in our group, and there was ample room for everybody.
The rooms were very clean and very comfortable. If I were to come back and not be able to rent the whole property, I would want to stay in either one of the poolside suites as they both have a kitchen (minus stove), dining area and living area as well as stepping out onto the pool. The other two suites have a bar fridge and coffee station for your convenience. All rooms are always stocked with the best ever Kona coffee of Maui!
It is advisable to get a car so that you are able to get about the island. It is about a 45 minute drive from the airport. There are lots of tours to take and the best way is to go by car to see everything. For what you would pay in cabs and tours, the car is probably not much more. There is ample parking at Wai Ola and it is FREE. My Aunt and Uncle were staying at a resort at Kaanappali and would pay $10 / day to park a rental.
Although there are many fine dining options in Maui, we usually made our own meals. With food and drink, we averaged about $15 / person / day for cost. if you ate out it went up considerably. Besides, with the amenities we had at home, why would we go out?
There are so many things to do in Maui. The snorkeling is fabulous! We also paddle boarded and whale watched. We liked going to the beach and there are a lot to pick from. There is also excellent shopping and golfing. We all liked to hang out at Front Street to shop, browse, eat, drink and visit.
We were at Wai Ola for ten days and it went by very fast. The first few days I was reluctant to leave the house as it was heaven just being there. Kim had flowers in every suite and fresh fruit for everyone to enjoy. She baked treats, too, that were delicious! With our own pool and no crowds to share it with, why leave? It was a very sad day when we had to pack up and go home.
Thank you Jim and Kim for welcoming us into your home and sharing it with us. It is very much appreciated from the Canucks of the Great White North!
